Please note that with the H3N2 Particle Vaccine there is a non-negotiable 14-day waiting period after the second dose is administered before your pet can come into Sumter Pet Sitters.
*MANDATORY WAITING PERIOD FOLLOWING ANY BORDETELLA VACCINATION

After being vaccinated with the Bordetella vaccine, a non-negotiable waiting period is required before your dog can come into Sumter Pet Sitters and be around other dogs. Because of this waiting period, we strongly advise that your dog receive their Bordetella vaccination at least two to three weeks prior to your dog’s scheduled stay at Sumter Pet Sitters. The Bordetella vaccination is much like a flu shot for humans, in that, following their vaccination, there is a possibility that your dog might contract a mild form of the strain. As a result, your dog may be contagious and pass it on to other dogs. If your dog shows any symptoms of Canine Cough, they are not allowed in our facility at any time during their treatment. Additionally, all dogs must be symptom-free for at least 14 days before they can return to activity at Sumter Pet Sitters.

FIRST TIME BORDETELLA VACCINATION WAITING PERIOD GUIDELINES:

Intranasal/ Oral Vaccination Method: (1 dose): A non-negotiable 4-day waiting period is required.

Injectable Vaccination Method: A non-negotiable 2-week waiting period is required after the 2nd booster in the series is completed. (Must complete the series as recommended by your veterinarian).

YEARLY RENEWAL OF BORDETELLA VACCINE (BOOSTER SHOT):

Intranasal/Oral Vaccination Method: A non-negotiable 4-day waiting period is required.

Injectable Vaccination Method: A non-negotiable 24-hour waiting period is required.

FIRST TIME RABIES VACCINATION WAITING PERIOD GUIDELINES:

All dogs vaccinated against rabies for the first time must be vaccinated at least 4 weeks (28 days) prior to arriving at Sumter Pet Sitters. Although most puppies are given the Rabies Vaccination at (12 weeks or 84 days) old, we realize this sometimes is not the case. In the event of dog receiving their first time Rabies Vaccination at a later time, there is a non-negotiable waiting period of 28 days required.

*This 28-day waiting period only applies to the FIRST TIME RABIES VACCINATION and not to Subsequent Rabies Vaccination doses/boosters given to the dog. This policy is specifically aligned with the guidelines set by the CDC in regards to the Rabies Vaccination for Canines.

**The Rabies Vaccination Certificate must include the dog’s age or date of birth. Proof of a prior Rabies Vaccination may be required if there is any question as to the 28-day time period or if your requested Boarding or Doggie Day Care dates are within one month of the issuance of your pet’s Rabies Vaccination Certificate.

Medications
We will gladly administer medications if your dog needs them while boarding. Dogs on medications may require an examination prior to boarding. Medications must be in their original containers. There is no fee for us to administer medications, please contact us with any questions.

Special Note about young puppies
The immune system of a young puppy is not yet fully developed, therefore they have a higher risk of picking up contagious illnesses. Although some kennels might take in puppies after only the first round of shots, waiting until they are fully vaccinated, and have had time to build a stronger immune system, provides the best protection against him/her getting sick. Because of this, we are unable to provide care for puppies younger than eight months of age. If your puppy’s health matters to you, please consider this when adopting a puppy and planning your vacations and/or travel. We firmly believe the health, safety, and happiness of all of our pet guests is paramount to all else.
